New reasons to not be at the gym!

Nothing like the birth a a few promising TV series to keep one's ass planted on the couch late in the evening rather than hitting the gym.

But don't worry, there's hope: these shows are likely too good to last.

That caveat aside, let's dive in, shall we?

Bionic Woman: Despite my trepidation, I find myself liking this show. The production values are high (a rarity in sci-fi programming) and the acting doesn't suck. I'm not going to say much more, because I won't be sold until the story pans out a little more fully.

Life: Regardless of the knee-jerk comparison to House, MD (right, because another Brit playing an odd but smart American automatically makes it a similar show) I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Life has more in common with other conspiracy-driven shows (Lost, X-Files) than, House, Monk, or any other quirky character-driven drama. Damian Lewis proves again that he is a talented and nuanced actor, no surprise to those of us familiar with his work...even the tragically flawed "Dreamcatcher".

Haunted: Not the most original premise, but the premiere was engaging enough to elicit my continued viewing. Unlike Sci-Fi channel's "Dresden Files", this actually seems to be written for a grown-up audience. I like Matthew Fox in Lost and he seems well suited for the lead in Haunted.

Reaper: Love it! A 21 year old slacker working at Home Depot discovers his parents sold his soul to the Devil and he therefore has to work for said entity tracking down escaped souls. Priceless. As an added bonus, the best friend character, "Sock", the the spitting image of our friend Ben from San Diego. And Ray Wise as the devil, how cool is that?

Heroes: Yes, I realize I'm a bit Johnny Come Lately here, but we just watched the first two episodes of Heroes season 1 and we were very impressed. Damned fine TV.

I'm still on the fence with Bionic Woman....

I'm willing to give it another shot or two because it does show promise because, like another very similar show that has become a favorite, I disliked it in the first episode or two because of the stupid usage of "Frack, Fracken A, Fracken B...etc..." as filler because they originally couldn't find better dialogue. HOwever, the ideas were fresher and that's what began to win me over.

Granted, Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) and Aaron Douglas (Galen/"Chief") make appearances-- oh boy...HUGE departure for Katee who, after last season's finale of BSG was quite possibly a Cylon (and maybe the Chief too) goes to a new show to become... a CYLON?! (machine in human form.... meat puppet, whatever). We shall see.

I had the same reaction to Life as you, B, but I couldn't get how strangely this guy talked as though all he did was read that zen book... A little whacked. AND, I'm trying REALLY REALLY hard to suspend my LE knowledge in order to NOT just tear apart the procedural things (as well as his return to the job- discussion later on that) *SIGH*

Now, of course there is CSI Las Vegas (can you believe this is the 8th season!?) and I LOOOVE this show! I have enjoyed the Miami ones but it's not as "CSI" as this one, but has it's own merits, much to the chagrin of some of my other friends who loathe David Caruso.

I've stuck with Heroes from the begining after being VERY pleasantly surprised with it's twists and turns!!! It's given me some closure on certain episodes whereas "Lost", albeit one of my favs for twists and trying to decipher sub-plots and secret meanings without looking for extra stuff online, continues to twist the knife in my gut because they simply like to answer questions with more questions. It begins to tire you of it, but there I am like an addict for a fix, eager to get my grubby hands on the next baggie....

UGH!

The thing keeping me from the gym is just mental exhaustion from the office move and continual noise. I drag myself though, because once I get there I do feel better and it gives me a sense of mastery over things (my little victory). AND, to combat the brain fog, I broke down and bought a nintendo DS lite with Brain Age 2..... don't ask how slowly my brain functioned when I first played it. Let's just say I'm improving the score ;-)

So far, I thin k"Life" is my fave new show of the season. We'll see how long it lasts...due to that very fact. :o(
